Does my child qualify to play at Greater Helotes Little League?
There are no experience or skill requirements to play Little League baseball and softball.   Every registering player will be placed on a team matching his or her age and skill level.

National Little League charters "local leagues" such as GHLL to provide Little League baseball and softball programs within a defined league boundary.   Players may only be registered by the local Little League in which boundaries they reside.

GHLL's league boundaries extend far beyond Helotes. Generally, GHLL's league boundaries take in all of northwest Bexar County north of Potranco Road and west of Loop 1604.   Below is a general description of GHLL's league boundary.   These boundaries vary somewhat so if you have a question, click here to email us your address and we will determine if you are in our league boundaries.

Starting at Potranco Road at Loop 1604 on the south, then west to the Bexar/Medina county line, then north along the Bexar County line to the Bexar/Bandera/Kendall county line [includes part of Bandera County which is Northside ISD], then southeast along IH 10 to NW Loop 1604 [includes Dominion and to Camp Bullis], then south along Loop 1604 [parts of Northwest Crossing are included] to Potranco Road.

What is the difference between Spring and Fall seasons?
Spring is considered the "competitive" season for Little League.
Fall season is more focused on instruction and is intended to prepare the players for the division in which they will be playing the following Spring. This is an ideal league for a new player to become familiar with the game or a returning player who wants to work on their skills in a less competitive environment.

When and where is Fall 2010 Registration?
Fall Registration will be held online from Aug 1 - Aug 27. Check www.GHLL.org for a link to the On-Line registration system about August 1.

NEW FOR THIS SEASON: August 14 and August 28 from 8Am-12Noon are designated "Certification Days" Parentds or guardians of registrants MUST appear on one of these days at Community Bible Church Northwest located at 8118 Tezel (Corner of Guilbeau & Tezel) to show a proof of age [birth certificate] and proof of residence [utility bill] for each player before they can be assigned to a team. What is the registration fee refund policy?
Registration fee refunds will be provided only under the following conditions:

1. A refund request must be filed by EMAIL BY THE CUTOFF DATE displayed during online registration [August 27 for Fall 2010 season]. Send email to: kristengause@yahoo.com.
2. No refunds will be considered after the cutoff date specified during registration.

4. If a player is injured during the season and physically unable to play based on a doctor's orders, refunds are considered on a case-by-case basis by the GHLL Board-of-Directors.

All questions regarding refunds should be addressed to the GHLL Treasurer Click here to eMail the GHLL Treasurer. No one other than the Treasurer is authorized to approve a refund request.

Back to FAQ

Is there a mandatory fundraiser [such as a candy sale]?
NO!     Some other local Little Leagues advertise lower registration fees, but require the players to either participate in a fundraiser or "buy out" of the fundraiser at a substantial cost. Greater Helotes Little League does not do this, the registration fee shown above is all each player pays. While GHLL does hold various fundraising events, player participation is not mandatory.

GHLL does ask a parent or guardian of each player to help operate the concession stand once or twice per season for an hour or 2 so we don't have to hire someone to operate it.

Where will games be played?
Most GHLL games will be played at GHLL fields located at 10185 Braun Rd. Click here for map and directions

In some older baseball divisions [such as Junior and Senior] and all softball divisions GHLL teams may participate in "interleague" games with neighboring leagues to allow our teams to have more competition. Thereforem, some of these "interleague" games may be played at neighboring Little Leagues fields around Helotes.

Back to FAQ

When will games be played?
Fall 2010 season games are expected to begin in mid-September with the last game no later than Thansgiving.

Games might be scheduled any weekday evening and/or anytime on Saturday. Sundays are usually reserved for make-ups for rained-out games. We attempt to give younger players early games [6PM start time] during the week due to school.

GHLL will schedule at least 12 games per team. Depending on the number of teams and field availability, your team's season may vary.

Back to FAQ

Where and when will practices be held?
Practice will begin in after teams are assigned in early September. There are no tryouts or drafts in Fall so teams are assigned by neighborhood, school, or requested coach when possible. Practice days and locations are set by the Team Manager. Team managers often parctice at area schools within the GHLL League boundary, though there is no guarantee.

What Equipment is Provided by Little League
WHAT LITTLE LEAGUE PROVIDES:
Your registration fee includes a team cap and team uniform shirt. GHLL provides all necessary equipment for games including balls, helmets, bats, and catcher's gear.   However, players may use their own Little-League approved equipment such as bats, helmets, and catcher's gear.

WHAT PLAYERS NEED TO PROVIDE:
Parents or guardians should expect to provide baseball pants, socks, and belt [color to be determined by Team Manager] and appropriately sized glove. While the type of shoe worn is at the discretion of parents, if baseball shoes are purchased by the parents, only rubber cleats are permitted in Little League. Junior and Senior baseball players are permitted to use metal cleats.
